Hi me Hainanese, but dun know how to speak, disgraceful.

Coz I was raised by maternal grandma (Teochew Nang)

So only know teochew.

but in singapore, some ppl tends to speak a mix of teochew & hokkein.

so sometimes, i dun know how to reply them? Teochew or Hokken, anyway they are almost the same...

have problems pronouncing some words is because they dunno the "tone" of the word.. cantonese language has 9 tones..mandarin has 4...

thats why if u buy cantonese albums, the lyrics is still written in mandarin.
i dunno how to speak or hear cantonese until i listen to cantonese songs and read the lyrics. Very Happy

unlike say..eg. cantonese and teochew,
hakka and hokkien,
its totally different.

NIA PEH WAH SI TEO CHEW NANG!!!!

Father and Mother is pronounce as "Peh Bu"
But when talking about your father, it should be Nia Pa
Should be Nia Pa Wah Si Teo Chew Nang....
But Teochew don't normally talk like this.

I am a Teochew, but now polluted by Canto.
Lost many Teochew words and got replaced by Canto (my wife's fault) Smile

So rojak now.....
Must go back and talk to my dad more.....
